Growing tangerines at home is a great option for those who have a passion for gardening or want to ensure they are eating fruit free from pesticides and chemicals.
Few people know that it is possible to grow tangerines at home, despite limited space. In any case, it should be taken into account that the height of the tangerine tree can reach two meters.
In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, mandarins also have a very pleasant aroma. The fruits are rich in vitamins C and B, as well as carotene and citric acid. Below, we explain how to grow mandarins in pots.
The first thing to do is to remove some mandarin seeds and wash them thoroughly to remove any remaining pulp. It is recommended to remove the seeds from a very ripe fruit. Dry the seeds thoroughly with paper towels.
The pot should be about 30 centimeters tall, and the soil should be high-quality, meaning it should be rich in macro and micronutrients. Plant the seeds about 3 centimeters deep, then lightly moisten the soil. The plant will take about 3 to 4 weeks to germinate.
Place the pot in a sunny corner of the house. Although it is a cold-resistant tree, it needs plenty of sun.
The mandarin orange plant requires ample water. Remember to ensure good drainage for the plant as well. For the first few weeks, water about 3 times a week, after which you should do so whenever the soil feels dry to the touch.
The mandarin tree can bear its first fruits after one year.
