How to make your own homemade laundry detergent

It’s very easy to make homemade laundry detergent at home. We can use more natural and environmentally friendly ingredients.

It is also a pleasure to use products that we have made ourselves by hand.

It is best to measure each ingredient per liter of total liquid and start with a small test amount.

Ingredients

  • 35-40 g of natural soap bar per liter (coconut, Marseille, glycerin, etc.)
  • 60-65 g of sodium bicarbonate
  • 60-65 g of borax (some people use only half of the borax, 30 g)

Many people prefer to replace borax with percarbonate (more environmentally friendly) or even just 4g of salt per liter for very mild formulas.

Preparation

  1. Grate and boil the soap in half a liter of water and, once dissolved, add the other ingredients and stir.
  2. Pour into a bottle and add the rest of the hot water.
  3. To aromatize, 5-6 drops per liter of your favorite essential oil (lavender, lemon, etc.) are enough.

For a more effective detergent on stains, use washing soda instead of baking soda (  not to be confused with caustic soda, which can burn skin if not used carefully).

You can use about 100-120 ml per load of laundry.

Remember not to use too much soap or anything other than laundry soap, as uncontrolled foaming can damage your washing machine.
