How to Grow Avocado from Seed: 3 Ways to Get It to Sprout at Home

Can you grow an avocado on the balcony? It seems impossible, however, growing an avocado in a pot is not that difficult because it can be done simply by starting the seed inside the fruit. Nothing could be simpler and now let’s see together 3 different ways to make it germinate before burying it.

The avocado plant is one of the most sought-after and talked-about indoor plants out there. Avocado crops are often at the centre of discussions about the fact that their cultivation is not considered sustainable if it does not come from Italian regions. However, this fruit is so loved and adored by many that they prefer it spread on a slice of toast or in a nice salad with salmon. But if we want to try growing it at home as many are trying to do, there is no need to fear, it just takes a lot of patience. We have three methods to choose from, let’s see them together

Recycling a plastic bottle

First, remove the avocado seed and clean off the excess pulp with a sponge and water. Then peel it and it is ready to be germinated. With a small recycling bottle Take a plastic recycling bottle and cut it in half. At this point, turn the neck part upside down and insert it into the second half. Fill with water until the level is at the lower limit. Next, place the heart of our avocado with the widest part facing down and therefore in contact with the water. In this way we will let our seed germinate, all that remains is to wait and when we notice that the water recedes, add more. Leave it exposed to the sun.

with chopsticks

If we don’t want to use a bottle, we can take some toothpicks. We will insert them into the core, slightly bent upwards, on each side. Only three will be enough. In this way we will have obtained a support for our seed that will hold it above the water. We fill the glass and leave it to soak (always only the bottom part). Then we put it in the sun.

With a plastic bag for recycling

We take a jar and put some soil in it. Then we put our seed in and leave it uncovered only halfway. We spray it and then cover it with a plastic bag to create our own personal greenhouse effect at home. This way, when the plant is exposed to the sun, it will always remain moist and when the soil is dry, we will have to water it again!
